Description: Oh, my, how I love Zoe! When Judy first rescued her she thought she was a Zoe she'd adopted out a year ago, because she has the naturally cropped tail. But no, this Zoe is only 6 months old so it can't be, but what a sweetheart. When I went to Judy's to drop off the van that Crums Climate Control kindly lent us for the weekend (call them for your a/c work - we love them - 407-383-6648), I ran in with my camera to take a few pictures of the new dogs. There was Zoe, sitting quietly in her crate, watching me with hopeful eyes. I opened her door and said, "Come on, Zoe, let's go outside!" and up she popped, heading out into the back yard. I had such a time getting photos of her because she wanted to be right next to me, brushing up against my legs. And then she would jump up on me, but not like most dogs who all but bowl me over (I am, after all, only 98 pounds. OK, not really, but I used to be, a really long, long time ago....). No, Zoe jumps up, but places her paws gently against you, holding most of her weight on her back legs. If I could have slipped her past my husband and into the house, Ralph, our bassett hound, would have thought he'd died and gone to heaven!!! Now, I don't really know if she is part Schipperke or not, but it is one of my favorite breeds (I love it's history ~ we are a sea-going family) so since she is almost all black and has the docked tail, and I am the Great And Powerful Oz and can type anything I want on our website, that's what she is! Ta dah! In all honesty, though, if you'd like a nice size dog who already has a sense of manners, Zoe is definately your choice!
*** How familiar are you with the Labrador Retriever? According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Labrador Retriever is a loving, affectionate, lovable, patient dog. Once known as the "St John's Dogs," the Labrador Retriever is one of the most popular breeds in the United States. Originally from Newfoundland, Canada the Labrador was trained to jump overboard into the icy waters to haul fisherman's nets to shore. Specimens were brought to England in the 1800's by English ships coming from Labrador, where the dog's fine retrieving instincts were honed and developed. One of the best family dogs and canine companions because of their gentle, loving disposition, the highly trainable Labrador also excels in drug detection, as a guide for the blind, and service dog for the disabled. The breed is also an outstanding obedience and field trial competitor. Highly intelligent, loyal, willing, and high-spirited. Lively and good-natured, they love to play, especially in water - for they love to swim. They have an excellent, reliable, temperament and are friendly, superb with children and equable with other dogs. They crave human attention and need to feel as though they are part of the family. Labs are easily trained. These dogs are watchdogs, not guard dogs, although some have been known to guard. They have a life expectancy of 10-12 years.
