Description:
Sandi was found on the highway, was nearly hit by a car when a lovely lady stopped, opened her door and in hopped our girl, showering her with kisses! Oh my gosh!!! Well, what's girl to do? Becki not only took her home, but brought her to the vet, had her examined, brought up to date on shots, bought the needed prescriptions to treat her for a mild case of heartworms, and even had her sedated and bathed (she was named Sandi because she was o dirty, but a she has a terrible fear of water, so this seemed a reasonable short term solution - I think I'll try this with my cat....). Unfortunately, Becki can't keep Sandi because her lease limits the number of pets she can have. So I asked her to tell me a little something about Sandi. By the length of her response you can tell she loves this dog and wants her to get a wonderful home. Here is some of what she wrote:

I found her on the road about to get hit. When
I pulled over and opened my door she jumped right in and started licking my
face. From that very first meeting she has been so sweet and loving. She
was very underweight and you could tell had been badly abused. She has
since put on some weight and even though the affects of abuse are still
there they are getting better and will continue to get better over time with
love and attention. She loves to play with her rope toy and also loves it
when I fill the kong with peanut butter. She gets very excited when it is
meal time and when it is time to go on our walks. She has a great
personality because she likes to play but is not crazy hyper, she enjoys
just laying around with you and does not bark very much.
The vet said she was probably just a little over a year old. She weighed 45 pounds but since she
was starving when I found her she is still under weight and will gain a few
more pounds when feed properly. She has a moderate activity level, she
loves to play but also loves to just lay around and enjoy the day. She is
very friendly with people, loves to give kisses and really likes to be
scratched. She does however still show signs of abuse and gets very scared
when you raise your hand to get something or even to move the hair from your
face. She never get aggressive when you do this just very scared. I have a
five year old brother and she is great with him, we even found him laying
with her in her crate several times. Some dogs she is very good with and
plays well with. Other dogs for some reason she seems very uneasy and
defensive. She is never overly aggressive with them but I would be very
cautious leaving her unattended with certain dogs while others she is great
with. For example I have two small dogs that she does great with and my mom
has a standard poodle that she also plays wonderfully with, however, my
boyfriend has two large dogs that I would not feel comfortable leaving her
alone with just in case so I guess it just depends on the dog. I don't know
about cats, I have not seen her around any. She is housetrained, create
trained and leash trained.
I also wanted to tell you that she is very scared of baths, both in the
bath tub and with a hose. She was SO dirty when I first got her that in
order for me to be able to bring her in the house it was with out question
that she had to have a bath first so rather then touchier her we gave her
mild sedation at the vet office and I bathed her there. Since then I have
been slowly trying to get her used to water while using positive
reinforcement but it is going to take a very long time. She is not
aggressive with it just completely freaks out and get very scared.
I knew when I saw her on the street that she
deserved better then that and that hopefully I would be able to find her
that. Just love her and give her lots of scratches and you will have a best
friend for life.

Now, if we can't find a loving home for this dog, shame on us! Becki has gone the extra mile for Sandi. So often we get phone calls just telling us there's a dog loose somewhere. Don't get me wrong, that's better than nothing, but look at what all Becki has done to help Sandi find a home. Let's make this happen quickly. Even if you can't adopt, how about fostering Sandi until place her in a forever home - I don't want Becki go get in trouble with her landlord just because she has a heart of gold! Sandi is a sweet loving dog that deserves a sweet loving family. Do you have one?
