Description:Zena was adopted from us almost three years ago but unfortunately had to be returned for reasons not her fault. She is housebroken, runs free in the home without any issues and is great with kids. Since she's been back with us she has been integrated into the play group at the Sanford Center and is doing extremely well. She plays outside with all types of dogs and she seems to be very tolerant but will also stand her ground. She's very patient and well-mannered, even amidst the chaos of all the other dogs! Zena would be a great companion for the right family!
Volunteer Update: We took Zena to an event today and she did amazing! She listens very well, great on a leash, likes kiddie pools, and LOVES to go for car rides. Zena is one of the sweetest dogs I have come to know at the shelter. She loves little kids as well as other dogs. She lets the little kids walk all over her and wont even look to see what there doing. She woulddod great in any home! She is so easy going but loves to play too. She loves to take sips of diet coke if you leave them laying around. Zena also loves to sunbathe. We took her to our pool and house afterwards and she loved it! She thinks everything is hers and just wants to be by your slde, but if you tell her no she will immediately understand and not do it again. Everybody loves her! If I didn't have another dog I would take her home in a heartbeat!
Zena qualifies for our Seniors for Seniors program! If adopted by a senior (55+) her adoption fee is $50.
*** According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Labrador Retriever is a loving, affectionate, lovable, patient dog. Once known as the "St John's Dogs," the Labrador Retriever is one of the most popular breeds in the United States. Originally from Newfoundland, Canada the Labrador was trained to jump overboard into the icy waters to haul fisherman's nets to shore. Specimens were brought to England in the 1800's by English ships coming from Labrador, where the dog's fine retrieving instincts were honed and developed. One of the best family dogs and canine companions because of their gentle, loving disposition, the highly trainable Labrador also excels in drug detection, as a guide for the blind, and service dog for the disabled. The breed is also an outstanding obedience and field trial competitor. Highly intelligent, loyal, willing, and high-spirited. Lively and good-natured, they love to play, especially in water - for they love to swim. They have an excellent, reliable, temperament and are friendly, superb with children and equable with other dogs. They crave human attention and need to feel as though they are part of the family. Labs are easily trained. These dogs are watchdogs, not guard dogs, although some have been known to guard. They have a life expectancy of 10-12 years.
