Jenny is an older female Airedale/Chow mix. She came to us because her owner passed away. If you've ever seen the musical Annie, Jenny looks a lot like the starring canine, Sandy! She has the blond fur of an Airedale, but the spotted tongue of a Chow. She has a very sweet personality – loves attention and getting her belly rubbed! Even though she has arthritis in her hind leg and takes pain medication and glucosamine for it, she still gets around really well. She loves to go outside and sit in the sun. She would be great for an older couple since she doesn’t need to be walked a lot. Just needs a nice yard to roam around in.
Foster Update: Jenny may be an old dog, but she's still a darn good watch dog! A pizza delivery guy came to my door last weekend at 12:30 in the morning! I was sound asleep, but Jenny heard him and started barking to let me know someone was outside! Someone had obviously played a prank on the pizza guy, but it's nice to know Jenny is on the alert! Jenny eats one cup of dry Beneful dog food twice a day. In the morning, I'll give her about 1-1/4 cups of Beneful, and then the same amount at dinner time. Once in a while I may give her a treat by adding some beef gravy to her food if we've had pot roast for dinner. She licks the bowl clean and wags her tail in appreciation! Jenny is very curious about our cat, Jester. Jenny will walk right up to Jester and look at her. You can almost hear the wheels spinning in her head wondering, "What is this small creature? Why doesn't it ever bark?" Jester isn't interested, and will hiss at Jenny. But it doesn't really bother Jenny. She just walks away. It's too bad, because you can tell that Jenny just wants to be friends! As an older dog, Jenny isn't interested in chewing on furniture or anything like that. She just loves attention, especially getting her belly rubbed. And when she's left alone, she enjoys lying on the cool tile floor. Jenny has the softest fur, especially when it's kept trimmed. She is a blond, and we all know they have more fun! Her tail is quite bushy and she wags it frequently, especially when you pay attention to her and talk to her. She loves being fussed over! Jenny still gets around pretty well for an old girl. She likes to spend time outside in the grass, or on our porch. I think she likes the cool feel of the floor. She is also very friendly and always wags her tail when she sees me or my husband. She'll even "talk" to you too. If you "howl" at her - she'll respond back! In the summertime, we keep her coat trimmed pretty short to keep her cool. She seems to appreciate it! She really just needs a good family to give her lots of love and attention.
Jenny qualifies for our Seniors for Seniors program! If adopted by a senior (55+) her adoption fee is $50.
*** According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, The Airedale Terrier is the "King of the Terriers," as it's one of the largest terrier breeds. The breed was developed in the 19th century in England, and takes its name from the Valley of the Aire. He has been used to hunt small game in his native England, and even big game in Africa. During World War II, they were used for police and guard work. Although there are still some working lines out there, today's Airedale is mainly a companion dog. They are courageous, protective, fairly friendly with strangers, intelligent, pleasant and loyal. This breed generally gets along well with household cats and other animals, but they sometimes try to dominate other dogs. The Airedale can learn new tasks and tricks quickly, but if you ask him to do the same thing over and over again, he may refuse!
