Description:Foster Update 8/28/10: Athena was given her new name of the "toast munching cat" by her foster Mom. Apparently, Athena loves bread and toast so much (preferably buttered) that she now has her own slice of toast and butter, cut up in small bits each morning as a "second" breakfast. She likes to sit on her foster Mom's lap and munch away on her toast whilst her foster Mom munches away on her own piece! It's quite the ritual and heaven forbid if it's skipped. Athena has also "fallen in love" with a dog toy - a bright yellow plastic chicken. She rolls around on it, nibbles it, washes it and then snuggles with it! It's not that she doesn't have feline companions in the house but apparently, the chicken has a nicer personality!
Athena was rescued from Seminole Animal Control along with her 7 kittens. She reached out of her crate and gently tapped the PRBJ staff member as if to say, "please don't leave me here". And she didn't! She took Athena and her babies with her back to the center where she stayed for a while until she was transferred into a foster home.
Sounds great hey?! Well, all didn't go so well for poor Athena after that. She and her babies must have caught an upper respiratory infection (URI) whilst at Animal Control. After a painful battle for all concerned only Athena and one of her kittens, Eleanor the tortie survived. Athena was a wonderful Mom but was so sick herself so couldn't nurse her babies properly. Despite volunteers stepping in to bottle feed and medicate the kittens, 6 died.
Now we want a happy ending for Athena and her kitten, Eleanor. Can you give her the loving, forever home she so rightly deserves?
Athena is a calm, super sweet cat who loves attention, petting and sitting on your lap. You won't feel ignored whilst Athena is around! She chirps when she is happy and to get your attention - it's very endearing! Athena would fit in with most households - she just gently goes with the flow.......
Athena continues to be an absolute delight. She fits right into the feline group in her foster home, friendly and unassuming. She loves people and needs to be petted and loved.
