JoJo II came to us from a kill shelter. He would do best in a quiet home with no small children.
Foster Update: JoJo II is such a sweetheart! He rode very well in the car on the ride home. We went for a walk before entering the house and he enjoyed walking on a leash and watering a new area, kicking his legs back every so often. He interacted excellently with my two Westies in the backyard and within 10 minutes they were 3 peas in a pod running inside and out. His coat is smooth and soft with such a beautiful tail. He did NOT get on the furniture for about the first two hours so I believe his new owner can quickly retrain him if they prefer him that way, but my two boys were using it almost as an advantage in their play and I just have to let him level the playing field. :) My daughter had him in her lap while working geometry problems out on the computer. JoJo II appears talk to my boys through groans and barks and seems to try to herd them away from me. He wants all the attention and immediately flops over for his belly to be rubbed. You can tell that he is VERY intelligent - seems to be reading my face/eyes. so beautiful, smart, loyal and will make a good watch/alert dog for someone, but is also soft, loving, easy, precious, cute...Love, love, love this dog!!!
Foster Update 5/25/10: JoJo is doing great although he can be apprehensive around larger or boisterous dogs. I have taken him to a training session and the dog park (but kept on a leash). He does not want to be grabbed or picked up by surprise - or reached at from behind, but he is very mild mannered, fun, loving and smart. He was very calm during a bath as well. The conditioner made his hair even softer - his fluffy tail is so cute. He also can sit on his hind legs to beg - simply adorable! He is fine with cats, unless they run and then only until they turn around and are defensive at which point they just aren't fun anymore and he comes back inside.
Foster Update 6/1/10: JoJo is a fabulous dog – faithful, loyal, smart, beautiful (with a gorgeous flume of a tail and a walk that looks like a prance and he runs so fast – the pictures don’t do him justice)! He is playing at the dog park in DeLand off of his leash in the small dog area even though they have some very large dogs (standard poodles and others). He takes food from your hand very gently, knows his name, hasn’t had ANY indoor accidents and listens very well. He bathes well, brushes well, walks well, easily trainable – seems to be intuitive. He stands at the door back door and stares at you until you let him out. He is such a love – so beautiful too – this dog is a MUST for some great family who won’t find a better dog!! I am so in love with this dog!!! All the spunk of a younger dog, but the grace and behavior of an older, well trained dog, and the beauty of an outrageously expensive dog!
According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, this is the founder of all the English hunting spaniels. During the Renaissance, it was considered the ideal companion for the European hunter. Its popularity in America began in 1700. The Springer Spaniel gets its name from his method of flushing game: he springs forward to drive birds out of hiding. This breed hunts well both on land and water and is good at work in brush. He also is a fine retriever. The English Springer Spaniel's merry, gentle personality makes him an ideal family dog. His talents are hunting, tracking, retrieving, watchdogging, agility, competitive obedience, and performing tricks. Most English Springers are even-tempered, gentle, friendly, and sociable dogs that are great for kids. Intelligent, skillful, willing and obedient. Playful, energetic and a quick leaner. Merry, brave and sweet tail-waggers. Cheerful and courageous. It is affectionate, good natured and sincere, this dog loves everyone. Springers do best when they are with people as much as possible. They can get into trouble if left alone too long. They love water and may constantly get themselves wet and muddy. Usually they are good with other pets with the possible exception of birds. Sometimes argumentative with same sex dogs. This breed can be destructive and bark a lot if left alone. Springers need wise guidance through what is called their "teenage" time. Some are high-energy and they are all intelligent. They need a soft, but firm hand so they always know who is in control. There are two types of Springers - field and bench. The field type are bred for hunting and field trial work. They tend to have more white coat than the bench type, much less hair, and are more high energy. The bench type are bred for conformation shows and have more liver or black than white, they have much more coat, but are usually calmer. They have a life expectancy of 12-14 years.
