Description:Foster Update: Fiona is a delight to have; she has been to visit friends with me and is well behaved and responds well when you call her name, she loves to go to the doggie beach and walks well on the leash, she loves to run and play she is a joy to be with, she is a little warey of other dogs and does a little bark but thats as far as it goes. I cannot write anything derogatory about her at all, she is so good, good good.
She is not food agressive, sleeps well on her bed at night and does not need to be caged. She likes milkbone cookies for her breakfast and her evening meal is chicken and a handful of dried food mixed. Fiona gives so muich love and deserves lots of love in return
Fiona is a Dashchund / JRT mix who came to us from a high kill shelter where her time was up. We rescued her and now she is ready for her forever home. She is good with people, and would be a good fit for a 1 dog household. Can get a little barky when approached by other dogs. She also needs a strong owner and some good training.
She has a lot of energy and would make anyone a great bicycle or jogging partner. She has improved on a leash but she still needs work. A home with a back yard fence would be wonderful to wear her out before a walk and improve her behavior. She does know basic commands such as sit and stay.
She loves people. As soon as she is within reach of a person her entire body starts wagging. Her tail wags as well, but she is one of those incredible dogs whose entire body can wag with happiness when even just a stranger pays attention to her, especially kids.
She loves to chew a rawhide after a nice long walk and makes her one of the happiest dogs in the world. She also loves dried food which is great for her teeth.
She is such a loving dog and wants nothing more then to be cuddled and pet, she would make a perfect dog for anyone who wants an affectionate dog! She wants to please everyone so bad and the greatest reward you could give her is your love!
According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Dachshund (pronounced dak sund) originated in Germany many hundreds of years ago. "Dachs" is the word for badger. The Dachshund was bred to hunt and follow these animals to earth, gradually becoming highly evolved, with shortened legs to dig the prey out and go down inside the burrows. Smaller Dachshunds where bred to hunt hare and stoat. Dachshunds have many "terrier" characteristics. They are versatile and courageous dogs and have been known to take on foxes and otters, besides badgers. Lively and affectionate; proud and bold, almost rash. Tenacious. Can be willful and clownish. Curious and mischievous, they are very clever and may attempt to train the owner rather than allow the opposite. Devoted to his family, some fanciers feel the long-haired variety is calmer than the other two types. The wire-haired variety is more outgoing and clown-like. All are slightly difficult to train. Dachshunds are good dogs to travel with. They are best with older, considerate children and are moderately protective. These little dogs like to bark (their barks are surprisingly loud for their size) and are compulsive diggers. They are generally okay with other pets, however, they can be jealous, irritable, obstinate and very quick to bite. Sometimes they will refuse to be handled. They should not be over fed, for this breed tends to gain weight quickly. They have a life expectancy of 12-15 years.
