Description:
Eleanor is a wire hair Jack Russell and was found as as stray.  She looks like she is very well cared for, but she does have an existing skin allergy.  Whomever adopts her needs to be aware of it and give her medication and/or special food to limit her itching and discomfort.

Foster Update 04/11/10:  Eleanor is a very sweet and affectionate dog. She follows me around everywhere. She lays down and takes naps most of the day. She is a quiet dog only barking when someone comes home. She stays in the yard and comes when you call her, she does however take her sweet time smelling the grass along the way before she reaches you.

She is potty trained provided you catch her at the door in time. She does not pee in her crate or the house, however she does poop in the house upon occasion.

She wags her tail a mile a min.  She loves to lick your face, ears, just about anything even the couch. She seems to like leather.  She is great on car rides. She knows the sound of the car keys means we are going somewhere. She eats very little. She is not the typical high strung dog that Jack Russells are known for.She suffers from allergies so she is kept on Benedryl daily. The dissolvable ones for children seem to work best. She is stubborn about swallowing pills.

She is great with dogs, however from time to time she does snap at my dog. I'm not sure what the reason is for other than she is just being moody. She is not food aggressive.  She has never snapped at me, my husband, or my kids. It may be best to just have her by herself only, that way you don't have to worry.

She knows sit. We are working on shake. She loves to be in your lap and petted. She does well in the crate. She likes to play fetch. She is not destructive with toys and does not chew on furniture.

Eleanor would make a great family pet. She has been a joy to take care of.

Foster Update 04/21/10:  Eleanor is doing wonderfully. She is very friendly and affectionate. She wags her tail a mile a min. She is my little shadow following me around everywhere.

She can sit and stay when I do not want her to follow me outside. We are still working on shake. She loves car rides. She is good at bath time. She becomes playful after her bath when she is still all wet trying to dry herself off on the carpet. She knows what "do you want a snack?" means and "do you have to go potty?" means.

Her hair continues to grow in. She has to stay on Benedryl. I noticed a little bit of another "hot spot" further up her back so she continues to suffer from some unknown skin allergy. The new adoptive parent might want to invest in what is causing this, for there maybe something stronger that can be recommended like Prednisone which is great for intense itchiness.

She is still very laid back around the house. She is good off leash but if she sees a squirrel or something else that strikes her fancy she will take off after it. She usually stops chasing with a loud "Eleanor No". She recognizes the sound of keys and knows it means we are going for a ride. She loves her car rides. Going to the bank and dry cleaners are her favorite because they hand out snacks.

I am very impressed with the fact that she does not wonder away. She had slipped out for a couple of min and no one was aware of this at the time. She was at our front door barking to be let back in. She must have followed one of my kids out of the house.

She is not a yip-yappy dog. Only barks when someone comes home. She also barks to the sonic boom of the Space Shuttle landing.

Eleanor has been such a joy to take care of. She will make her new family very happy.

According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Jack Russell Terrier was developed in 19th century England by a clergyman named Jack Russell. This feisty little terrier was used to hunt small game, particularly fox, by digging the quarry out of its den. Breeders have emphasized its working ability, so the standard is very broad, encompassing a wide range of accepted body types. On English hunts, the Jack Russell Terriers were supposed to be long-legged enough to keep up with the hounds. The energetic and playful Jack Russell makes a good family companion. The Jack Russell Terrier is a perky, merry, devoted, and loving dog. Spirited and obedient, yet absolutely fearless. Careful and amusing, he enjoys games and playing with toys. Friendly and generally kind to children who have been taught not to tease or strike the dog. They are intelligent, yet willful and determined. They have strong hunting instincts (stronger than your average terrier) and should not be trusted with other small animals. They like to chase and explore. Be careful not to let them off the lead unless they are very well-trained. Jack Russells like to bark and dig. They tend to get restless and destructive if not kept fruitfully occupied and well exercised. Jack Russells climb, which means they can climb over a fence, they also jump. A Jack that stands 12 inches high can easily jump five feet. JRTs are not the breed for a inexperienced dog owner. This is a BIG dog in a little dogs body. The owner needs to be as strong-willed as they are, or this little guy will take over.
