Description:You've been thinking about adding a new cat member to your family? You don't want to wonder what their personality will be and what their size will be when they grow out of being a kitten? Figaro might just be your guy. Frequent comments about Figaro are that he looks "exotic" and that he is "big". I have several cats that are his size so I don't see that he is any larger than other cats. I guess to for some his stature is larger and taller than what they are used to. He has a streamlined facial structure that makes him look similar to a mountain lion as well as very distinct markings. And, oh - those golden eyes of his!
Figaro was found outside by a wonderful lady who is horribly allergic to cats. Since moving to his foster home, we have found that he is good with cats, dogs, and kids. For the most part he would rather lay beside or near you than play; however, once in awhile he and his foster sister chase each other for a brief amount of time. He is just a laid back, handsome guy just waiting for his forever home.
Initial Information:
No one is more upset than the woman that found Figaro about not being able to keep him because of allergies. She said, "He is a dream cat!"
Here is her description:
I found him wandering around the neighborhood (not far from UCF).
He's SUPER affectionate and a sweetheart. As I told you, I'd keep him in a second if I weren't deathly allergic to cats! I keep my garage open far enough for him to get in and out. I feed him and keep blankets out for him.
I took the cat to the vet. He is a neutered male and is leukemia, heartworm and FIV negative. I also took care of all his shots, including rabies (and have all the paperwork) so he should be good to go. He's such a DOLL. I just love him and HATE the fact I have horrible allergies to cats.
12.20.09 Foster Update: This unbelieveable little man came to me unexpectedly as a foster kitty. In all of my times of adopting and fostering, I have never met such a laid back cat. He has been moved from environment to environment - person to person. Nothing phases him. I have yet to hear him hiss. The cat and dog introductions in my house have not occurred yet however. He has not been sitting at the door of 'his' room and hissed as some cats would if they smelled another cat on the other side. What you are seeing in the photos is pretty much what he has been doing. When I come in to see him, he will rub up against me for affection though. The foster coordinators know that I have to say this..."Oh, if I only had permanent space for one more..." Whoever is lucky enough to adopt Figaro will be bringing an unbelievable cat into the family.
12.25.09 Foster Update: Figaro has now been introduced to his foster family of dogs and cats. Everyone is still getting to know each other but he is doing okay with both dogs and cats. I'm not sure if he knew what a dog was before this introduction. I'd say he is, at least, initially, more comfortable with cats than dogs.
01.01.10 Foster Update: Figaro continues to make himself at home. As you can tell from his photos, he is not a cat that isolates himself as he is laying out on the base of the fireplace, etc. He has found his favorite place to lay but is wandering around plenty. It really has been amazing to me how easy this introduction between the cats has been. Perhaps it is because I used the slow method of him having his own room for awhile but I think it is also just because not a whole lot seems to bother him.
02.15.10 Foster Update: Still, nothing much seems to bother Figaro. He goes back and forth to adoption events without much of a sound (unless I try to get him talking in the car ride to the event). Travel can sometimes make a cat nervous or unsettled. He goes from home, into the travel carrier (okay, going into the carrier is the part he likes the least but he is not bad about it), into the kitty condo at the event, back into the carrier, and back home. He struts out of the travel carrier like he was walking into his kingdom...totally unphased. Actually, that is a good way to describe Figaro - he struts.
04.16.10 Foster Update: Figaro continues to be in a multiple cat and dog household. In fact, recently, a foster dog was added to the mix. Either Figaro and Ox had their own discussion and agreed on their own arrangement of "If you leave me alone, I won't chase you.", or there just is no issue at all.
Figaro continues to settle in as he would not enter the bedroom as it was the domain of the resident animals; however, now he can be found lounging on the bed. If there were not so many animals surrounding me at night, I think he would like to snuggle up next to me. He really does seem to want a forever home to call his own.
05.24.10 Foster Update: Figaro attended an adoption event yesterday. When at an event he just curls up and goes to sleep for 5 hours! When folks stop by to see him though, they always comment on how handsome he is. I have to agree! Yesterday, a woman said his face had the look of a non-domesticated cat. His facial markings and structure are stunning.
