Description:
Bella is a pure bred yellow Lab.  She  was surrender with her friend Maddie because her owner was moving into a small one bedroom apartment which isn't a good environment for two big Labs.

I spent some time getting to know Bella and her friend, and they are just adorable.  They are everything you would expect in a Lab -- playful, happy, fun, loving, etc.

Bella acts exactly as you would expect a young Lab to act.  She is very playful and needs someone who is willing to invest the time to train her and she needs to be crated when you leave the house.  She is just like any young dog -- she loves to chew if left at home alone.

Foster update 10/26:  Bella is not good with cats, as we have 2 and she chases them and barks at them when she sees them.  She never hurt my children and I can say with much certainty, I do not think she would, but she does jump and knocked them over a few times.  Bella can’t be in the house alone or she will chew and destruct things.  We had to keep her on our pool deck when we weren’t home to keep her away from the cats and to save our house from being wrecked.  It is imperative that Bella’s new owners know how much energy she has, so they are aware of what they are taking on.  She has no dog manners and loves to jump up on the table, on the kitchen counter and any counter for that matter.  She will find things to chew from just about anywhere.  We bought her a few chew toys to help with her teething, but she gets bored staying in one place for too long.  She walks fairly well on a leash.

03/23 Volunteer update: BELLA has come back to us as her new family cannot afford to keep her.  Thsi sweet girl needs a break!  She is a playful & lovable Lab who needs a family to give her the security and love of a forever home.

03/30 Foster update: Bella is a wonderful and sweet dog. When she was first introduced to my home she imminently went to the toy basket and started playing with the toys. She loves her crate and doesn't bark in it unless she has to use the bathroom. She doesn't jump on the couch but instead will put her head on your feet and sleep on them. She has lots of energy so a yard would be perfect for her. She jumps a little but with some training that can go away. She acts like a puppy still so monitoring her and management in the home is important but if you tell her 'no' once she listens well and doesn't do it again.  She needs a lot of management at home and an owner that understands what Labs are like. I hope she finds a really good home, she deserves it.

*** According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Labrador Retriever is a loving, affectionate, lovable, patient dog. Once known as the "St John's Dogs," the Labrador Retriever is one of the most popular breeds in the United States. Originally from Newfoundland, Canada the Labrador was trained to jump overboard into the icy waters to haul fisherman's nets to shore. Specimens were brought to England in the 1800's by English ships coming from Labrador, where the dog's fine retrieving instincts were honed and developed. One of the best family dogs and canine companions because of their gentle, loving disposition, the highly trainable Labrador also excels in drug detection, as a guide for the blind, and service dog for the disabled. The breed is also an outstanding obedience and field trial competitor. Highly intelligent, loyal, willing, and high-spirited. Lively and good-natured, they love to play, especially in water - for they love to swim. They have an excellent, reliable, temperament and are friendly, superb with children and equable with other dogs. They crave human attention and need to feel as though they are part of the family. Labs are easily trained. These dogs are watchdogs, not guard dogs, although some have been known to guard. They have a life expectancy of 10-12 years.
