Update from foster:
Big Red will play with another active dog 24/7 and is super friendly. Big Red is gentle, listens well, loves to get pets and hugs. He doesn’t jump or beg for food and always uses outside bathroom! He is a gentle giant and we love having him as a foster!!! I just wanted to let you know that Big Red is perfect and deserves the best home!
Summer Camp!!
Big Red is one lucky pup! He is attended Camp Doglando - a fabulous summer camp for kids and rescue dogs. Dogs are learning basic obedience, crate training, socialization and so much more! It is such a great time for kids and dogs! Big Red will have a fabulous head start in training and is ready to join your family!!
Big Red was originally chained to a tree and left with a plastic crate for shelter (photos below from when he was found). The poor, emaciated dog was so desperate to get to food and get loose that he even chipped and eventually lost some front teeth. The owner was giving Red away, and a kind and loving lady came
to his rescue, taking
him home with the intention to get him on a healthy road. Red and h
er current
senior dogs...1 blind and deaf...did not get along well, so
she was unable to keep him but was trying hard to
find him a wonderful home! So she worked with him every day, feeding and training him so that he could be a good family pet for someone. When she is unable to find a person she could really trust to take care of him the way he deserved, she reached out to us at PRBJ:)
Big red has been to boarding kennels a couple of times and did great with all the very large and very small dogs he came in contact with. He loves to ride in cars and go for very long walks. The kind lady that took him in enjoyed walking him through the state park on the trails. Big red is also very intelligent and knows verbal and hand signals. Some of the things he knows are:sit, lay down, go to your bed, paw, and, wait. He is still working on, stay. His best trick is telling him, go to the bath, and he will jump in ready for his bath.
He is not the typical Bloodhound that howls, but he can howl something back to you that sounds like, "I love you!" He does occasionally like to counter surf but obeys the command, get down. Again he is very intelligent and his ideal family would need to be one that enjoys long walks and keeping up with his training.
Though gentle and easygoing, even somewhat bumbling, the Bloodhound is not the lazy, lie-around dog he is often portrayed to be on TV. This big breed requires plenty of space and safe areas where he can romp and ramble every day.
