Description:
Zoe is a wonderful Shepherd mix.  She's very friendly towards people and other dogs, and her size is just perfect.  She would make a great pet for just about anyone.

Kennel update 9/27: My first thoughts are "why has the dog not been adopted"! She is such a sweet, loving, playful dog! She loves people and kids! She excellent with other dogs and LOVES to play with them all the time. She goes out in several "play groups" each day and is just an excellent dog! She listens very well and doesn't bark alot..only the usual things dogs bark at! I just adore this dog and hope she finds a good home soon!

Foster Update 10/9: We had Zoe for about a week and a half.  She is an incredibly sweet dog.  Although she is very energetic, once she feels your touch she settles down immediately and takes all the hugs and kisses she can get.  She is a jumper however and as I have young children it made for several scratches.  She gets so excited when she sees you she just can't help herself.  I made out with several love scratches on my face the day I brought her back.  I think she would be best suited for a family with older children.  She was however always loving my kids but just consistently would get excited and jump on them.  She always wanted to give them lots of love.  I feel if someone has the time and money to devote to some small amount of obedience training for Zoe she would be the best family dog ever!!!  She does listen but not on a consistent basis--a little bit of training would do her wonders!!

***According to dogbreedinfo.com, in April 1899, Capt. Max von Stephanitz registered a dog named Horan as the first Deutsche Schäferhunde, which means German Shepherd Dog in English. Known for their tremendous loyalty and courage, they are calmly confident, but not hostile. This breed needs his people and should not be left isolated for long periods of time. They only bark when it is necessary. Serious and almost human in his intelligence, they have a high learning ability. The breed is so intelligent and learns so readily that it has been used as a sheepdog, guard dog, in police work, as a guide for the blind, in search and rescue service, and in the military. The German Shepherd also excels in many other dog activities including schutzhund, tracking, obedience, agility, flyball, and ring sport. His fine nose can sniff out drugs and intruders, and can alert handlers to the presence of underground mines in time to avoid detonation, or gas leaks in a pipes buried 15 feet underground. A quick daily brushing is best unless hair in the house is not a problem. They should be bathed rarely, only once or twice a year to avoid skin oil depletion. Shepherds have a life expectancy around 13 years.
