Description:

This beautiful little girl was found by a wonderful friend and supporter. He has found many cats and kittens in his neighborhood. He feeds them and makes sure that they are safe and taken care of. We got our wonderful Alfie and Smidge from him also. When he found her he thought she had an abscess and she couldn't eat at all. I got a text last night saying that she couldn't eat and asking if we could help. She was brought in this morning and when I took one look I knew it was broken. She had the saddest look that I had ever seen in a cat and yet so scared. I got her comfortable and then I called our ever faithful Veterinarian Doctor Wayne. Of course it was her day off but she came into work to see her and as soon as she saw her she confirmed that her jaw was indeed broken on the top and the bottom. We will never know how it got broken and all we can so is guess; but I DO know that with the help of loving supporters we can and will get her healed and find her forever home!

Did I mention that even though this little girl has lived outside all her life and is severely injured, she is the sweetest little girl! I was holding her and loving her and it was as if she knew we were there to help her! She started rubbing her little broken jaw ever so gently up against my chin! I had the hardest time putting her back into her carrier for her ride to her new foster mommy’s house. I got an update that she had gotten almost a whole can of wet cat food into her tonight! It is a tedious task but one well worth it! Her mouth has to be opened gently and the food placed on the back of her tongue so she can swallow it. I will be forever grateful to all of our wonderful, loving fosters that step up and nurse these little darlings back and then have to say goodbye to them.

After much thought, we decided to name her Valerie because the Latin meaning is Strong and healthy.  That is what this little survivor will be one day!

8.21.2009 Volunteer Update~ What a beautiful, sweet kitten!  I met Valerie yesterday at the home of her foster mom and she really is a little survivor.  She has a healthy appetite, soft fur, bright eyes and kitten curiosity.  She's not a big player, but loves to be held.  She is also unphased by the presence of dogs, cats, puppies and people of all shapes and sizes.  A truly amazing cat.  I'm so glad she found her way to us.

08.21.09 Volunteer Update:  I met Valerie last night.  When I saw another volunteer holding her on her back like a baby, and Valerie appeared so comfortable, I could not believe we had only had her for such a short time and after such a bad history for such a short life.  It was as though all of this cooing and cuddling was such a natural part of her life.  To have endured such trama at the hands of a human, she was so sweet!

10.15.09 Valerie is a little miracle on four legs :)  What a darling, sweet kitten. After all she's been through, she would rather be held and loved than anything else on the planet. She's playful, chatty and one of the most affectionate little kittens I've ever met. She's healing so well after her trauma, you would never know she had been through so much. One of my favorite things about Valerie is her obsession with TV shows about dogs. She ignores the TV completely otherwise, but when a dog show is on, she rushes up right next to the screen to check out the pups! Since she was fostered in a home with three large dogs, I think she might miss the canine companionship!

10.28 Foster Update
Dr. Wayne - the wonderful veterinarian who performed Valerie's jaw surgery - couldn't BELIEVE how well her jaw has healed. She couldn't believe it was the same kitty!
