Max, formerly Hotdiggity is a miniature Dachshund who finds himself here since his parents were moving. He is very loving and wants his family in sight !
Hotdiggity, now named Max, is a five year old miniature Daushund who is very loving. He becomes attached very easily so if you are in the mood for a lover, he will be it. He will go in his crate, but really does not like it and will bark to be let out, so an apartment might not be a great home for him unless you are home most of the time.
His one bad habit is that he does not like to share toys as he was always in a one dog family. Therefore, I would not recomend him as a companion to another small pet, or to be around small children who will naturally want to grab at his toys, but instead as a companion for an older family or a stay at home mom/dad or both!
In his foster home he gets along with other animals (black lab and bull mastiff) and just wants to be loved by his people but his previous owners said he really likes to be the only dog.
He was originally adopted out by us in 2009 and even though we do our best to find permanenet homes for our charges, he was an unlucky fellow. His owners had to move and decided that he could not go with them. So he once again is with us. (Most of us would put our dogs in the equation before making that move, but his owners unfortunately returned him instead, after 3 years)
Originally, We think he got lost because he was in good condition. He was not microchipped so we were unable to find his first owner . PS. Please, microchip your pets!!!
If you love Dachshunds, you will love Hotdiggity! Let's see to it that the third time is a charm for this young man!
According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Dachshund (pronounced dak sund) originated in Germany many hundreds of years ago. "Dachs" is the word for badger. The Dachshund was bred to hunt and follow these animals to earth, gradually becoming highly evolved, with shortened legs to dig the prey out and go down inside the burrows. Smaller Dachshunds where bred to hunt hare and stoat. Dachshunds have many "terrier" characteristics. They are versatile and courageous dogs and have been known to take on foxes and otters, besides badgers. Lively and affectionate; proud and bold, almost rash. Tenacious. Can be willful and clownish. Curious and mischievous, they are very clever and may attempt to train the owner rather than allow the opposite. Devoted to his family, some fanciers feel the long-haired variety is calmer than the other two types. The wire-haired variety is more outgoing and clown-like. All are slightly difficult to train. Dachshunds are good dogs to travel with. They are best with older, considerate children and are moderately protective. These little dogs like to bark (their barks are surprisingly loud for their size) and are compulsive diggers. They are generally okay with other pets, however, they can be jealous, irritable, obstinate and very quick to bite. Sometimes they will refuse to be handled. They should not be over fed, for this breed tends to gain weight quickly. They have a life expectancy of 12-15 years.
