Description:
Won't someone please adopt Marlee?  She has been in our rescue longer than any other dog, since 2005, pretty much since she was a puppy.  We all love her to pieces ~ she has the good looks and wonderful personality that endears Labs to so many.  Marlee is great at playing fetch and will bring a ball back to you (I used to have a lab/rottie mix that would bring back the ball then dare us to take it away....). She loves car rides and swimming, but more than anything she would like a a single person or couple that she can take care of and play with. At 60 pounds, she is the perfect size for outings. In fact, she is just right for you but not for children. She must had been severely mistreated by a child when she was a puppy because she is aggressive toward pre-adolescent kids. So she needs a home where children are not an issue. Come see Marley and let her put a smile on your face. She always has one on hers!!!

Marlee was one of the dogs selected to participate in the University of Doglando training in October 2007. Several trainers from around the country were here for a class and our dogs were the ones they worked with!

Update on Marlee: Marlee had waited a long time to find her forever home. She had met with a number of people but never really liked them. Michelle, her foster mom, had almost given up hope when a lovely lady came in one day to meet a different dog, saw Marlee, and it was love at first sight! Marlee barely gave Michelle a backward glance as she went trotting out the door (I think Michelle's feelings might have been a bit hurt!). So how tragic was it that just a couple of weeks later this woman was diagnosed with recurring cancer! Yet, with all the anxiety and, let's face it, fear that must have given her, she wept when she brought Marlee back, not knowing if anyone else would see the wonderful dog that she had seen! We want Marlee to find a forever home soon so that we can contact this sweet lady and put her mind at rest, at least in this corner of her life!

Foster Update:
"I've fostered Marlee a couple of times and I just adore her! She loves toys and can play fetch forever! Also, like a typical lab, she likes to swim. She loves affection and is such a sweetheart. She made herself right at home on my couch and even beat me to my bed every night! She is alert and will bark when someone knocks on the door, but she will also quiet down when you tell her to. She loves to play with other dogs - although she didn't like a couple of smaller dogs I introduced her to! (I think she was just being protective of me.) To me, Marlee is the perfect dog. There's only one catch.. She doesn't like children. Her new owner needs to be very aware of this. (A child must have done something pretty bad to her before she came to Judy!) Marlee would be great for a single person
or couple who doesn't have children and doesn't have children visiting their
home. Oh, and Marlee told me she would love someone who has a nice big
fenced-in backyard, preferably with a pool. Do you meet her criteria? :) "

1/11/2008 Update:
How happy we started the year! Marlee was adopted by the most wonderful gentleman. After waiting so many years, it seemed that she had finally found her home. Sadly, he returned her several days later because he felt the tension rising between Marley and his 15 pound dog. This man was in tears as Marlee rolled over on her back with that, "Rub my belly!" look in her eyes. She's so confused ~ she thought she was home. We know that Marlee loves her people. It is very probable that she decided that she didn't want to share and his other dog picked up on this. So what do we have? We have Marlee, a wonderful, smart, affectionate dog who needs a home with no children and no resident dogs. She doesn't mind when other dogs visit ~ she just doesn't want them to stay. Please, help us find thiswonderful dog a home!!!

*** According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Labrador Retriever is a loving, affectionate, lovable, patient dog. Once known as the "St John's Dogs," the Labrador Retriever is one of the most popular breeds in the United States. Originally from Newfoundland, Canada the Labrador was trained to jump overboard into the icy waters to haul fisherman's nets to shore. Specimens were brought to England in the 1800's by English ships coming from Labrador, where the dog's fine retrieving instincts were honed and developed. One of the best family dogs and canine companions because of their gentle, loving disposition, the highly trainable Labrador also excels in drug detection, as a guide for the blind, and service dog for the disabled. The breed is also an outstanding obedience and field trial competitor. Highly intelligent, loyal, willing, and high-spirited. Lively and good-natured, they love to play, especially in water - for they love to swim. They have an excellent, reliable, temperament and are friendly, superb with children and equable with other dogs. They crave human attention and need to feel as though they are part of the family. Labs are easily trained. These dogs are watchdogs, not guard dogs, although some have been known to guard. They have a life expectancy of 10-12 years.
