Description:
Have you ever met a dog that survived an alligator attack? No? Then meet Olive Oil, a sweet, sweet 60 pound shepherd/pointer mix. She is all better now but that was a bad Sunday afternoon for her - the alligator tore her open from the neck down! What a survivor!!! She is very loving and gets along well with other dogs. She is totally housebroken and spends her days of leisure in Judy's living room playing with her squeeze ball. She is, however, very alert. She is always the first to let Judy know when someone is at the house. She barks until Judy says, "It's OK," and then she quiets right down. She has a bit of arthritis so she isn't demanding, just incredibly loving. She would love her own home (one without cats, please). We truly think she deserves one, don't you? As senior pet, her adoption fee is only $100 and she qualifies for our Seniors For Seniors Program. We think that she would be a perfect dog for a seasoned citizen. She is not demanding but will provide the companionship and protection that is often needed today.

Olive Oil was one of the dogs selected to participate in the University of Doglando training in October. Several trainers from around the country were here for a class and our dogs were the ones they worked with!

And just in case you think Olive Oil doesn't have any life left in her, let me tell you something ~ Judy had her at the dog park recently and she was hunting squirrels like there was no tomorrow. First she struck a classic "Pointer Pose". Then she tried to sneak up on them. When the squirrels retreated to the other side of the fence, smart Olive Oil went to the gate and tried to open it! This is such a wonderful dog. I just can't believe it has taken so long for anyone to realize what a gem she is!!!

11/29 Update:
How sad is this? Olive Oil was adopted a year ago by an 85 year old man. We were so happy, and so were they. But now she is back with us. The gentleman's health had deteriorated and Olive Oil had developed a piddling issue. It turns out that our girl has developed diabetes, easily treatable with medication. Will she be so fortunate as to find another family to adopt her? We so hope so!

Why would you consider adopting a senior pet?
1. Older dogs are housetrained. You won't have to go through the difficult stage(s) of teaching a puppy house manners and mopping/cleaning up after accidents.
2. Older dogs are not teething puppies, and won't chew your shoes and furniture while growing up.
3. Older dogs can focus well because they've mellowed. Therefore, they learn quickly.
4. Older dogs have learned what "no" means. If they hadn't learned it, they wouldn't have gotten to be "older" dogs.
5. Older dogs settle in easily, because they've learned what it takes to get along with others and become part of a pack.
6. Older dogs are good at giving love, once they get into their new, loving home. They are grateful for the second chance they've been given.
7. What You See Is What You Get: Unlike puppies, older dogs have grown into their shape and personality. Puppies can grow up to be quite different from what they seemed at first.
8. Older dogs are instant companions -- ready for hiking, car trips, and other things you like to do.
9. Older dogs leave you time for yourself, because they don't make the kinds of demands on your time and attention that puppies and young dogs do.
10. Older dogs let you get a good night's sleep because they're accustomed to human schedules and don't generally need nighttime feedings, comforting, or bathroom breaks.
