Description:Look at that face! I love it! Oohmpa Loompa is a great big lug who is all love and wiggles. Read this wonderful description from the sweet family that rescued him:
" A few weeks ago I found a lab mix running down a major road, and I have not been able to locate his owners (I posted signs, listed him with Animal Services and placed an ad in the paper, he had no tags or microchip). I’d love to keep him, he’s such a sweet guy, but we’re at our limit of pets allowed by our HOA. As you know, a lot of shelters are over full, so we’ve had a hard time placing him. My husband was told he will be put down immediately if we take him to Animal Services because he has dermodectic mange, which he’s started treatment for.
My husband named him Oohmpa Loompa because the dog is just a big silly oaf. His temperament is incredible, when I found him I just called out to him and he came right up to me. He does the full-body wag if you even look at him. Everyone in our family has small female dogs, so I’m not sure how he is with males or larger dogs, but he plays very nicely with my 13-lb rat terrier. He is curious about my cat but not aggressive in any way toward him. I’ve only seen him around 1 child but he didn’t pay him any particular attention. He is housebroken (in fact he’s better about that then my dog), I’ve no idea if he’s crate trained, we don’t have a crate anywhere near big enough for a 60-lb dog. He’s just a big, goofy kid who loves to play. He loves to be around people, even people he’s never seen before, and will follow my husband and me from room to room as we move about the house. I’ve attached some pictures of him and you’ll notice that in one of them I have my hand in his mouth with no issues."
I love dogs like this ~ big goofy love muffins! So far as the mange, no big deal. It is the non-contagious type and clears up quickly. If you want a great dog, you have just got to meet Oohmp Loompa!
*** According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Labrador Retriever is a loving, affectionate, lovable, patient dog. Once known as the "St John's Dogs," the Labrador Retriever is one of the most popular breeds in the United States. Originally from Newfoundland, Canada the Labrador was trained to jump overboard into the icy waters to haul fisherman's nets to shore. Specimens were brought to England in the 1800's by English ships coming from Labrador, where the dog's fine retrieving instincts were honed and developed. One of the best family dogs and canine companions because of their gentle, loving disposition, the highly trainable Labrador also excels in drug detection, as a guide for the blind, and service dog for the disabled. The breed is also an outstanding obedience and field trial competitor. Highly intelligent, loyal, willing, and high-spirited. Lively and good-natured, they love to play, especially in water - for they love to swim. They have an excellent, reliable, temperament and are friendly, superb with children and equable with other dogs. They crave human attention and need to feel as though they are part of the family. Labs are easily trained. These dogs are watchdogs, not guard dogs, although some have been known to guard. They have a life expectancy of 10-12 years.
