Description:

Ares was brought to us by his previous owners because their apartment complex does not allow his breed. He is a little bit shy when he first meets someone, but he warms up quickly. He is still a young dog, so he will need an owner who will be dedicated to continue his training (he is housebroken and already knows 'sit' when he is offered a treat). Because of his size we are do not want him to go into a home with small children so he does not accidentally knock them over. If you feel you would be a good fit for Ares please fill out an adoption application!

About the Rottweiler:

The Rottweiler is very strong for its size.  The breed is not recommended for the elderly or physically infirm.  The Rottweiler's size can be a serious problem with small children. Rottweilers have accidentally caused injuries to small children or the elderly by bumping into them and knocking them down or into furniture. This bumping is a natural behavior of the Rottweiler, a legacy from the days when the breed was used to herd cattle.

Rottweilers need human companionship and attention. Rottweilers are calm and alert companions. Rottweilers often follow their masters around the house, keeping a constant and sometimes obtrusive watch over their loved ones.

It is very important to establish boundaries with your dog. Sensitive (not rough) obedience training is the easiest and best way to do this.  Physical mastery of the dog is less important than gentle and positive training methods, time, and patience.   Training will need to be consistent throughout the dog's life.  These dogs like, and need, to have a "job".

The Rottweiler’s instinct to protect those he loves becomes very apparent as he matures.  Strangers must never come into your home or yard unannounced. People expected to be in contact with the dog while you are absent should be well known to the dog.

Rottweilers need regular grooming. . Regular brushing will reduce the dog hair problem, help eliminate doggy odors, and reduce the chances of skin problems.
