Ben Ten and his littermates were found abandoned in pretty lousy shape. Underweight and neglected, they were given lots and lots of tender loving care by one of our fostering families, and as a result, are happy and healthy and ready for love!


I can't even begin to describe how sweet these little babies are. After all the poking and prodding, brushing and scrubbing -having meds pushed down their throats and all of the rest, they are all incredibly good natured and forgave all of our manhandling instantaneously. That's the beauty of puppies! They love you. One staff member joked that we were 'planting' fleas on them just so we could hold and care for them a bit more :)

You MUST meet these puppies in person. You will melt into a puddle on the floor from their cuteness.

FOSTER UPDATE 8/27/09: He is sweet, moderately active, pretty much a low-keyed great puppy! He sleeps through the night and hasn’t had any accidents in the house. Ben’s Mommy is a Shar-Pei and Daddy, well we don’t know that…
Mommy was an “unwed mother”. He has a wonderful “widows peak” design on his fore head and his coat is soft, but not too long. He’s neutered, micro-chipped with HomeAgain® and his shots are up to date for his age. He and his 6 other brothers and sisters have been with us in our home since they were 7 weeks old. He’s socialized, plays with the big dogs, the little dogs, my 4 & 6-year-old grandsons. This boy is a keeper you should meet him!

 

Volunteer Update 09/03/09:  Ben Ten is LONELY.  He is the only one in his litter who has not been adopted yet and he is ready for his forever home.

***According to dogbreedinfo.com, in April 1899, Capt. Max von Stephanitz registered a dog named Horan as the first Deutsche Schäferhunde, which means German Shepherd Dog in English. Known for their tremendous loyalty and courage, they are calmly confident, but not hostile. This breed needs his people and should not be left isolated for long periods of time. They only bark when it is necessary. Serious and almost human in his intelligence, they have a high learning ability. The breed is so intelligent and learns so readily that it has been used as a sheepdog, guard dog, in police work, as a guide for the blind, in search and rescue service, and in the military. The German Shepherd also excels in many other dog activities including schutzhund, tracking, obedience, agility, flyball, and ring sport. His fine nose can sniff out drugs and intruders, and can alert handlers to the presence of underground mines in time to avoid detonation, or gas leaks in a pipes buried 15 feet underground. A quick daily brushing is best unless hair in the house is not a problem. They should be bathed rarely, only once or twice a year to avoid skin oil depletion. Shepherds have a life expectancy around 13 years.
