Geraldine was unceremoniously dumped on the front steps of our adoption center. Through no fault of her own, she couldn't be cared for anymore. There is no doubt that she was someone's pet because she came to us in total shock about her new situation. I get the sense she has spent most of her life napping on someone's bed and all of a sudden she was left outside in the early morning waiting for Judy to find her. She is absolutely gorgeous and her black coloring is so striking that it will make you gasp! You have to come see this lovely lady to see what I mean!
SHe is as sweet as they come - a big, gentle, soft sweet girl. She's a tiny bit on the shy side at first (I think she's still getting used to new people), but give her 30 seconds to sniff and she will bend her head down waiting for a gentle hand to give her pets and scratches. She will be forever grateful to the kind person who adopts her and gives her a new start in a wonderful home - which is what she deserves.
Centuries of superstition in the U.S. have given the black cat a bad name. But in other countries such as England and Japan, the black cat is considered to be good luck! In fact, Charles I of England owned a black cat and loved it so much, the cat was kept under constant guard. When the cat became ill and died, it just so happened that Charles was arrested the next day.... How's that for luck?!
Due to the association of black cats with witches and other "dark forces" in the United States, there is an increase in abuse of black cats around the time of Halloween. Many people will adopt black cats for "decoration" and then release them. For this reason, many animal rescues do not make black cats available for adoption during the month of October.
