Description: Pepper is a little Lab mix puppy who is full of beans! This mischiveous baby was rescued by us from Seminole Animal Control. The administrator called Judy and asked if she could take a puppy with an injured leg. Well, of course Judy said yes. Sadly, the vet has told us that the injury is too complicated for surgery. It may heal on its own or may eventually require amputation. It doesn't seem to have slowed Pepper down one bit. She is as happy and energetic as you please. Even if her leg should eventually require removal, you'll be amazed at how quickly she'll adjust. We have seen it time and time again and it leaves us with a grateful smile on our face.
2/25/09 Foster Update: Pepper is such a little "snuggle lover girl" starving for affection and attention. She has been running and playing with another little puppy having so much fun!. She doesn't even act like there is anything wrong with her back leg. She's a little under weight from having such a tramatic start in life, so I'm going to "beef" her up a little!. When you call Pepper's name she comes right away and sits right by your side. We are working well on the crate training and the house-training, and it shouldn't take her long to catch on. It won't take long for Pepper to get adopted, she's just such a well dispositioned dog and will go fast!....so get your adoption applications in!
*** According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Labrador Retriever is a loving, affectionate, lovable, patient dog. Once known as the "St John's Dogs," the Labrador Retriever is one of the most popular breeds in the United States. Originally from Newfoundland, Canada the Labrador was trained to jump overboard into the icy waters to haul fisherman's nets to shore. Specimens were brought to England in the 1800's by English ships coming from Labrador, where the dog's fine retrieving instincts were honed and developed. One of the best family dogs and canine companions because of their gentle, loving disposition, the highly trainable Labrador also excels in drug detection, as a guide for the blind, and service dog for the disabled. The breed is also an outstanding obedience and field trial competitor. Highly intelligent, loyal, willing, and high-spirited. Lively and good-natured, they love to play, especially in water - for they love to swim. They have an excellent, reliable, temperament and are friendly, superb with children and equable with other dogs. They crave human attention and need to feel as though they are part of the family. Labs are easily trained. These dogs are watchdogs, not guard dogs, although some have been known to guard. They have a life expectancy of 10-12 years.
