About Zuma the Yellow Lab | |
|
|
Zuma is a lovely, lovely Yellow Lab. She came to us from Seminole County Animal Control. MaryBeth, the administrator, called Judy and asked her if she had room for a pregnant dog. Well, of course Judy said yes. And just in time. Zuma was just about to give birth!
1/30 Volunteer Update:
Zuma is a very sweet and loving retriever. Very beautiful and friendly. She has a very cute under bite which makes her look like she is smiling all the time. I'm not sure what happened to her in her past but I can tell she is a bit troubled. She has 2 large (maybe bite marks) scabs on her neck (one on top and one on bottom) and she seems to have a sensitive neck. When I use a slip leash on her and pull just a little she cries so loud you would think I was killing her! Pulling her by a collar or choke chain is not really an option as it seems to really make her either very scared or its actually painful. She does not liked to be man handled and grabbed fast but doesn't react with a bit or nip but a shirk down or yelp! I can see someone used a very heavy hand on her and she is scared of this happening again but suprising she is very trusting! She loves to walk and walks wonderfully on the leash. She is not currently crate trained..I'm not sure if this is connected with her being so pregant (as it might cause her to use the bathroom more than normal)? She loves other dogs and is very curious about them. She enjoys treats and carefully savors them in the corner once she delicately takes them from your hands!
1/30 Volunteer Update:
I walked Zuma the mama dog today and she is quite friendly with dogs and people. She was prancing around without a care in the world even though she is about to give birth any day now! She has great little personality, very socialable.
2/1 Volunteer Update:
While you and I were watching the Super Bowl game, Zuma gave birth to eightpuppies ~ 4 blonde, 3 black and 1 chocolate. 6 girls and 2 boys! Thank you, Skye, for fostering them!!!
3/17 Foster Update:
St. Patrick's Day is an perfect day to add this update because I truly felt lucky to be able to foster Zuma and her puppies. Her puppies are completely weaned now and Zuma should be ready for her forever home soon. I can't say enouch sweet things about this girl. She gets along wonderfully with other dogs and is very playful. Being a Lab mix she is very much still a puppy. She is completely potty trained. However, I would suggest that she is crated at her new home when her owners are gone as she does have a bit of separation anxiety and likes to chew. But other than that you can't ask for a better dog. She is a joy to have around and very loveable. And who can resist her quirky underbite?? I guarantee she won't be waiting for her forever home for too long, she's just too great of a dog. So what are you waiting for?? Put in that application and come meet this gem.
04/17 Volunteer Update:
Very playful with other dogs and perfect little medium size-very controllable even though she's great on a leash anyway. She seems like she'd be a good fit for almost any owner!
05/03 Foster Update:
She does very well with Patrick's daughter and she is 3. She likes children alot but should be supervised with them because she is a high energy dog and can be mouthy (typical of a retriever) at times when she is playing. But there is not an aggressive bone in her body. Sometimes she also needs help directing her energy in the right manner. She is a quick learner and loves to please. She is completely house trainied and crate trained. She should still be in a crate when no one is home because she is a chewer and has some seperation anxiety. Those are really the only areas where she needs work. She is a great dog who loves everyone, and every dog she meets. She is full of affection and playfullness.
6/19 Foster Update:
Zuma couldn't be sweeter and she is glue on me and Ralph. She wants to be wherever we are. She would not be good with a small child because she is too much. A small child under, say 8, would get bowled over and crawled on and licked to where it could be scary and annoying. We are slowly clipping her nails as they are very long......We have to do it slowly because it freaks her out. She is completely housebroken. I adore her know she will find her perfect forever home.
