5/31/2018 Foster update:

Brad is a great dog! I had the pleasure of fostering him for 5 days, and throughout that entire time, he was nothing but a blast.

He was very energetic when I first met him and liked to run around and jump. But, the moment I put him in my car to take him home, he was very relaxed and calm… he just sat there and watched out the window. He didn’t pant or drool either.

Once we got home, he spent the better part of the first hour just walking around sniffing and exploring his new surroundings. I have a two story home, and after the first few times of going up and down stairs he seemed to have it mastered. He calms down very quickly, and will stay within view of you anywhere you go.

If he’s asleep…which he liked to do often… when you get up to go to another room, he will get up and follow you. I took him for a few runs outside and he really seemed to enjoy that and likes to walk. He is very good on a leash! From time to time, he would pull if there was another animal around; otherwise, he was as calm as could be.

I left him home alone to roam free the house, and when I came back, he was waiting for me just as happy as could be to see me. The only time I ever heard him bark was when I came home or someone rang the door-bell… other than that he was quiet.

I brought many friends around, and when he would first meet them, he was energetic and excited and would jump around, but after about 2-3 mins, he would calm down and lay down.

He slept with me in my bed every night and never had one issue….and he would only jump on the bed or the couch after I told him to- otherwise he would lay on the floor.

All in all, Brad is a fantastic dog and with a little basic training of, “sit,” “stay,” and basic commands, I think he will make someone a fantastic companion that is fun to play with outside as well as a good nap pal for rainy days.

Also, he is very gentle and never once seemed like he would bite-even when I had to pry a small piece of chicken from his mouth that he got when it fell on the floor..haha. Also, I noticed that he is not protective or aggressive with his toys, which is great if new family has kids.

I wish I didn’t work a full day as I would’ve liked to adopt Brad myself. But, with being away all day, I felt he would be happier with a family who is around more often to play and hang with him. Thanks for the time I got to spend with this wonderful guy!

4/1/2018 Dog 4 a Day update   I had Diesel today, and he was such a wonderful boy! After I picked him up we stopped at Petsmart to pick out a toy and some treats, and he had a great time. He was nervous walking up to the store, but once we got inside and into the toy isle, he perked right up and got pretty excited. He was very friendly with every other customer we passed, he’s just a lot of dog, so you have to be strong to reign him in and keep him from going everywhere. I discovered that he has to problems jumping into the car, but he is apprehensive about getting out of them.

After the store we went to my apartment where I have a cat, and Diesel was very excited to meet him, but not in an aggressive way. Unfortunately, my cat was not as excited and went into hiding for the day. But Diesel didn’t make a big deal about it and moved on. I think with the right cat, he should be just fine with a proper introduction. We went for a walk over to a little fenced in area my apartment offers as a sort of ‘dog park’ and he ran around in there with me and played fetch with his new toy he picked out. Another dog walked by and he wanted to play so badly! The other dog didn’t come in, but did say hello through the fence, and all went well. Diesel just got really excited but not at all aggressive.

When we finished, playing we went back into my apartment where I gave him a chew stick and he went to work nawing it down to a nub. Then he hopped up on the couch with me (I gave him permission first) and took a brief nap before grabbing his new toy and keeping himself entertained. He’s content to play with himself or to have you engage with him. We played some fetch in the living room, he isn’t very good at giving the toy back, and I think he would really benefit from a tug o’ war rope. He’d love that. He then took another little nap before we went back out on another walk around a lake near my complex and he was great! He pulls a lot, so he needs a strong handler and probably a harness instead of a collar, but he was very friendly with everyone we passed by and wanted to greet all the dogs! No aggression showed there either.
All in all, a fantastic day! He would make an absolutely great addition to anyone’s family!

3/30/2018 Update: Brad did Dog 4 a Day and spent overnight with a great family with a cat and two young children ages 7 and 3. They informed us that Brad aka Diesel  was great with their children and with their cat also. He is completely housetrained.  They felt he was too big for their small children, which he is, so young small children are not advisable. They said he is a great fantastic dog.

Brad originally came to us with all of his siblings as a puppy but was returned due to the family developing allergies. He's very sweet and loving. He loves attention and to go for walks. He was in a home with young children and appears to be good with other dogs. A fenced back yard is reccommended as he likes to play outside. If you're interested in Brad please submit an online adoption application.
