About JJ the Cat-Loving Border Collie

  • Microchipped: Yes
  • Housetrained: Yes
  • Owner Experience Needed: None
  • Reaction to New People: Friendly
JJ is a stocky Border Collie mix who found herself abandoned in a house. What happened is her owner had a heart attack and was taken to the hospital. It was eight days before anyone remembered the dog! We were called and asked if we could take the dog (at this point no one had seen it ~ Animal Control could hear it barking in the house). Amanda drove all the way to Cresent City to meet the Animal Control officer at the house. JJ was quite happy to see them. She hadn't starved to death ~ overweight to begin with, she had apparently found a bag of cat food. ~ Oh, speaking of cats, JJ loves them. Here owner cared for about 25 cats who wandered in and out of her home. But back to our story ~ Amanda said that JJ was initially a bit shy but very sweet, and when she opened the car door, JJ jumped in without even being asked! It was a long ride home, not for the dog but for Amanda. Let us just say the first thing Amanda did was give JJ a bath!

OK, so what do we have in JJ? A sweet dog who loves cats, is easy going, a bit stocky, in need of losing a few pounds, very loving and affectionate! A great dog!!! Even though she is still young, we have qualified her for our Seniors for Seniors program ~ if adopted by a senior citizen, her adoption fee will be lowered to just $75.

Foster update 1/15:
Well wheni brought JJ home after picking her up i was just thinking..ok just until tommorrow when i can bring her to the shelter. I'm not going to foster her! Well she stole my heart..i couldn't possibly let her stay at the shelter. So hear is her story! Once bring JJ home she greeted all my dogs (4..any were from a shih tuz to a german shepard) with a bit of shyness but all love! We went right into the bath..upon look at the skin i relized that i was actually looking at thousands of fleas..she was infested so bad it took 5 flea baths in a row to get them all off her! The first 2 bath the water ran red with blood from all the flea bits! She took it like a champ and did't even fight me! I also trimed her nails which were so long it spread her toes when she stood. And finally i cleaned her ears..all within knowing her for under 1 hour! She did great! She continues to do wonderful and enjoys wiggling with exciting ment when seeing me! She enjoys napping on the sofa or bed enjoying some outdoor time but mostly getting pet and loved! She would make a great pet for just about any home..as long as the people came home and didn't forget about her again!

Foster update 1/25:
JJ is doing wonderful! She is enjoying being in a home with lots of love. JJ is excellent with other dogs, cats, kids and all people. She loves attention and in the morning wakes me by licking and nibbling on my ears! When excited she is very "mouthy" and is like a cat..will lick and give love nibbles. I am trying to teach her not to do this as some people do not enjoy a 50lb dog doing this. The is the classic herder and will give nips at my ankles and butt if i run or bike. So i would just say she wouldn't be a good running partner! She is a bit older so is quite laid back unless its dog park time. She enjoys wading in the water (not a swimmer but likes water) and rolling in the grass! She is excellent with kids..she sit patiently while they pet or love her. We ran into a 1 year old at the dog park this weekend and all JJ wanted to do was sit and get pet and loved by this little girl..but with her herding instint i'm not sure how she would do with kids running around? Basically she is a great dog looking for a great home! Is that yours?

Foster Update 4/8: JJ was recently diagnosed with severe bilateral hip dysplasia and Cranial cruciate ligament rupture in the right knee. The vets do not feel that sugery would be a good option for JJ and have just suggested antiinflammatories and pain medication to control the pain and discomfort associated with these conditions. JJ is just as active as most any dog and enjoys swimming, running and is generally playful but does limp and have pain after heavy exercise. I still think she would do well in just abo
