Description:
Halo is a very sweet-tempered Shih Tzu. Why is a ten year old little dog looking for a home? Well, sadly, her elderly owner has entered the more advanced stages of dimentia and entered a nursing home. The daughter brought us the dog, made a donation, and asked us to find her a home. She was in a hurry and didn't even tell us the dog's name. I've named her Halo because she is a little angel, and what's more, she needs a guardian angel to come to her rescue. Despite limited vision due to cataracts, she does very well with children, dogs and cats. Despite missing some teeth (common in older small-breed dogs) she happily chomps away at her canned food. But despite are attempts to soothe her, she just shook and trembled when we took her in. It is my hope that this little angel, sweet Halo, will not have to wait long for a safe and loving home. I have qualified her for our Seniors For Seniors program ~ if adopted by a senior citizen, her adoption fee will be just $50. Please, help us find her a wonderful home!

Foster update 1/15: Well i just had to take home Halo from the shelter..she just kept wandering around looking lost! So i scooped her up and took her home. She gets along just fine with my 2 dogs and 2 other foster dogs! She basically ignores them and tires not to get steped on. She doesn't even care that the cats are in the room. He main goal in live is to follow me around and cuddle in my lap. She is fully housebroken but a little on the slow side when she walks. So i carry her outside..the minute i put her down she does her business and then slowly trots back to the dog to be let back in. She enjoys laying in the grass under the hot sun. Since it has be chilly lately i have been keeping her in a dog sweater which she seems to enjoy! She is a sweet girl whom just needs a quite home who will love her. She can hold the bathroom for 8-9 hours per day while i am at work and does not need to be crated. Each time i come home i find her in a funny spot were i'm sure she found right after i left and slept there the whole day. Today she was in the bottom draw of a plastic dresser..she has suggled herself into this tiny drawer. I had to wake her up when i can home to go to the bathroom! She is so cute and such a lover!

Are you unfamiliar with the Shih Tzu breed? Pronounced SHEET-sue, they are known as alert, spunky, happy and hardy. They are bred with an underbite which gives them a constant "smile." Traditionally, their coat is kept long, with ears blending into the body, distinct mustache, and a top knot secured with a bow. However, in our Florida climate, many are clipped short to relieve them of the heat. An alert watch dog, Shih Tzus like to bark but are usually quiet in the house. Originally from China, they were a favorite of the Imperial Chinese court and so revered that for many years after the Chinese began trading with the West, they refused to sell, or even give away, any of the little dogs. It was not until 1930 that the first pair was imported to England. The life expectancy of Shih Tzus in 16 years.
