They are also called Hemingway cats after the famous writer Ernest Hemingway. Mr. Hemingway had a love for cats and was given polydactal cats that created more offspring and the descendents can still be seen living at the Hemingway house in Key West, Florida. Today, approximately 60 cats, half of them polydactyl, make their home in the Ernest Hemingway Museum and Home, in Key West, protected by the terms of his will.
