UPDATE ON LAYLA 7/12/17 FROM HER FOSTER MOM:

We are two months in with fostering Layla now, and I'm thrilled at the growth in her confidence we're seeing. Just in the last week, she has now chosen to spend most of her time in the family room with us. We considered blocking off access under the beds, which I think would have moved the progression along quicker. In the end, we decided to let her come out of her shell naturally, and she is rewarding that decision. I am convinced that a couple of tall cat trees or cat shelves would have also made her come out quicker, but we still had success with a tall chair planted in front of the balcony window. (She loves sleeping there!)

In addition, Layla is getting more and more comfortable with laps. Her foster dad is home more often, so he began working with her by simply picking her up and lightly insisting on holding/petting her on his lap. After a few weeks of this, she began jumping up on her own. While I am at home, I also work on this technique. Just today she jumped up to be with me with just a little coaxing! At first, she will only sit for a few moments at a time. Eventually, she settles in to sit for longer periods, usually on the arm of the chair where she can be touching you constantly.

She is still nervous of our other cat. Fortunately, she is able to overcome those nerves when food is involved! However, I am convinced that the right home for Layla is one that does not have other pets. Whether there is one or several people around, though, she is amazingly comfortable and loving with all humans she has interacted with around us. With her confidence growing as quickly as it is here, I believe she will be an incredible addition to someone's family. I hope someone gives this beautiful and loving girl a forever home soon.

Regards,

Suzanne

 TO MY FUTURE FAMILY
A NOTE FROM LAYLA

Hello, my name is Layla. I am living with a foster family, but my heart's desire is to have a forever home. I thought I had found a good home, but it turned out they were looking for a different kind of kitty, so they gave me back. Do you have a place in your heart and life for me?

I'm only 3 years old, which means I have a long future to share my love with you! If you look closely at my pictures, you can see that I have some Siamese in my heritage, which really shows in my stunning blue eyes. If they don't draw you in, my adorable freckled nose definitely will! Enough about how gorgeous I am, though. Let's talk about my personality.

The first thing you should know about me is that I love to snuggle for a few minutes at a time. I will jump up to be with you several times a day to get lots of pettings. When I am ready for food or affection, I will talk to you. I really enjoy carrying on a conversation!

I'll nudge you with my head and plop down with my back against you, while letting you know with my words how much I love you. I especially like being caressed and having my head scratched. If you bring out the catnip, you can watch me roll around in ecstasy!

When we're done cuddling, I like to quietly keep to myself, just like many cats. Unlike some other kitties, though, I burrow under beds or in cupboards for my alone time. My foster dad has been making safe spaces up high to draw me out to help improve my confidence. I think I would really like a home with high-up cat shelves and cubby holes at the top of cat trees to allow me alone time but keep me out in the family area.

My foster mom says I need someone with a lot of love and a little bit of patience, since I am very timid. I love people and don't seem at all afraid of adults or even children, but I lack the confidence to sit out in the open with them right now. If you close off the spaces under furniture and give me a safe space up-high, you should see that get better very quickly!

I am not at all violent; I won't bite or claw you. And I am fastidious about using the litter box (which is way better than some other kitties I've met)!

Unfortunately, I am very afraid of other cats. Timid kitties like me often get attacked by others, so I find it hard to trust that I'm safe around them. I am not at all aggressive; I just hiss and run away to hide when I see another cat. Even if the other cat is not paying attention to me, I still get scared. I would feel a lot safer in a home without other animals, although a really patient family could work with me to help me overcome my fears.

When it comes to meal times, I like dry food and canned food. I only eat when I'm hungry, so it's really nice if you can leave a little out for me to graze on. I'm good at staying fit. My foster dad calls me muscular and svelte--whatever that means.

I am sure that someone reading this will realize that I am a perfect fit for his/her home. If you're that person, please don't hesitate to pick me up. I am ready to be a part of your family today! Won't you please adopt me?

Yours forever,

Layla

Hi, my name is Layla.   Let me tell you about myself.  I did have a home and was left abandoned to fend for myself.  I met a very nice lady who fed me and made sure I was not hungry and thirsty,  but her cats, who are males did not like me.  What do they know.....
I was taken to Pet Rescue by Judy where I am now in a cage all day because I am scared on the floor.    They treat me great here but I want a home.
I love kids, I love to be held and cuddled.   I love the human touch.   I am litter boxed trained.   Please come into the shelter and meet me.  I promise you will fall in love with me.
