Description:
Isn't Lennox a beauty? This sweet dog is in need of a new home because his owner has passed away. A neighbor is caring for him until we can find him a permanent home. I was told that Lennox is a long haired American Coonhound. I gotta tell you, I've never heard of such a breed. That's why I've indicated the possiblitiy of Australian Shepherd ~ he has the right type of coat, the intelligent eyes, and the size of an Australian Shepherd....
We know that Lennox has lived with cats and does well with them. He also gets along with other dogs and adores children. We think he would thrive in a home with a child, a ball, and a big yard. If that describes yours, please consider adding Lennox to your family roster!
According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, The Black and Tan Coonhound was developed by crossing the Bloodhound and Foxhound, in the United States on the basis of its colors (black and tan). Best known as a raccoon hunter, the Black and Tan Coonhound howls as he trees his quarry. The breed has also been used very successful to hunt other types of game such as bear, stag, opossum, deer and mountain lion - even on difficult terrain. It withstands well the rigors of winter as well as intense heat. Timid or nervous dogs may be disqualified from exhibitions. The official recognition dates from 1945. Some of the Black and Tan Coonhounds talent's include hunting, tracking, watchdogging, and agility.
A quick-to-follow, intelligent, loyal and good-natured hunter and companion, the Black and Tan Coonhound pleases hunter and owner alike. The Black and Tan is an alert and eager dog who is very dedicated to his work. Some sources say this passionate worker is a bit aggressive, but will listen to his master. Other sources say he is gentle and friendly with people. Some individuals are protective and are a bit reserved with strangers. They are usually best with older considerate children. Sometimes they can play rough. This dog can be willful, requiring firm, patient and on-going training. They may howl if they are left alone too much. Do not let this breed off the leash in an unsafe area, as they may take off after an interesting scent. Some Black and Tan tend to be aggressive with other strange dogs. There are two types of Black and Tan Coonhounds: show and field. The show types are a bit larger and maybe somewhat less energetic and work oriented, and therefore tend to make better pets. This breed drools and slobbers. They have a life expectancy of 10-12 years.
