Description: Salem is a beautiful black kitten who is one in a million. This little fellow was rescued from the Orange County Dump by a volunteer with the German Shepherd Rescue and has been raised with German Shepherds. In fact, Salem thinks he IS a German Shepherd! You gotta love that! He is a playful fellow but likes to be held and cuddled. He is available for adoption through the German Shepher Rescue, but since people don't exactly go to their website looking for cats, we are posting Salem on our website as well in the hopes that the perfect family will spot him and let him into their heart. If this is the cat for you, please contact his foster at 407-568-5468 or azia25@hotmail.com. She will direct you to the appropriate application process. Thanks! 11/4 Foster Update: When I e-mailed Salem's rescuer/foster and shared with her that I thought he was a Bombay, she confirmed it with this: "Salem's eyes do have a light copper look to them, and he will retrieve toys for you, and he loves to run around the house with toys in his mouth. I just thought he was trying to act like the dogs! As you can tell I do not know a lot about cats." I love that!!!
According to The Cat Fanciers' Association, it has been said that if you want a dog, a cat, or a monkey, you want a Bombay. Bombays can often be leash trained, most enjoy playing "fetch," and all are fond of inventing new ways to entertain themselves and the folks that live with them. Bombays are congenial and utgoing, and make intelligent, affectionate companions. They do well with children and will often act as a "greeter" with visitors. They live compatibly with dogs and other pets as well. The Bombay generally combines the easy-going temperament and robust nature of the American Shorthair and the social, inquisitive, lap-loving character of the Burmese. The Bombay's head is rounded with a short muzzle, but there should not be a "pugged" or "snubbed" look. The coat is the most defining characteristic of the Bombay. Its short, flat, gleaming, black-to-the-roots coat accentuates its rippling muscular form. And, along with its conspicuous gold to copper eye color, leads to the Bombay being described as the "Patent leather kid with the copper penny eyes."
