Description: Sweet Erin is a brindle lab mix who has been waiting far too long for a forever home. We rescued her as a puppy in June of 2008. Now she is a year old and still not adopted. We are mystified by this. Erin is a great dog who has been in a fantastic foster home, so she is housetrained, affectionate, socialized.... What else could someone want in a dog?
Erin was found wandering on her own. So sad. So glad to be safe again. Now all she wants is a loving home. I think we can do that, don't you????
6/30 Volunteer update: Erin is such a sweet lover of a puppy. She is very active and loves to play. She is all legs and is very tall and slim. She would benefit from another well behaved dog to learn from and let all her puppy energy out on!
7/11 Foster Update: "Erin has been staying with our family, including 3 dogs (2 Westies and a large Lab/boxer mix) and 3 cats. She has an unbelievable sense of smell. We have a fire pit in the backyard that hasn't even been used in years. My husband used to put alot of kitchen scraps and stuff in it. Erin has an unbelievable sense of smell. She discovered a ham bone that had been buried in there, for well over 2 years!! And it happened so fast, we were all in the yard and looked away for 2 minutes when it happened. We were all shocked and didn't know to praise her or scold her! She also likes to bury things deep, like over a foot. I know we have spoiled our other dogs and they don't really know how to act like dogs, and they are even amazed by her behavior. She does lack social skills, but we are all working on that, (she's still very much a puppy) especiallly our big boy Lucky, who she has taken to alot. Unfortunately Erin doesn't seem to get along with cats, so you might want to make sure it goes on her webpage. Erin is very, very smart and very, very trainable. We are hoping to continue teaching her in hopes she ends up in a wonderful home. "
10/20 Foster Update: We have been working with Erin and she has come a long way! She has become a happy, loving, loyal house dog! She still has her "moments" (forgetting we are not other dogs to play with, jumping on the furniture) but they are few and far between. Nothing a water bottle doesn't stop! She still needs to be reminded of her manners, mostly jumping up to greet you. She is house and crate trained and has never chewed on anything except chews and her Kong. (we always provide her something to chew on) She is a strong lady who needs a strong leader to follow.
Erin finally learned her name and basic commands, like sit, down, paw, etc. She is walking on the leash instead of pulling you down the road. She is still young, still very trainable and highly food motivated. She makes an excellent watch dog and protector. She loves to play with other dogs but she takes her playing very serious and needs to be reminded of that with some dogs. Erin is full of love and affection, just looking for a forever home to share it with!
12/12 Foster Update: I can't believe that Erin has been waiting almost six months for a forever home! Thank goodness Donna and her family have been fostering her. They have given her the love and attention that she has needed to become the loving dog that she is. People often ask how someone can foster, give up a pet they have cared for. It isn't easy, we cry every time one of them goes, but it is an act of self-less love. Donna's latest update helps capture that feeling: "As much as we love Erin, we would love more to see her with a younger person/persons who can be completely devoted to her alone. With 6 other animals in the house.... well we do what we can. She loves to be the number one and she deserves to be, she is such a lover and is soooo loyal. She has come such a long way but she still needs to be reminded of her manners. I just know there is a younger person out there who needs a companion as much as Erin needs to be the one and only. We don't mind having her at all, we just feel she could do so much better, she really, really is that special."
