About Isis the Beautiful Puppy | |
|
|
• Appearance – Isis is a very light brindle with very nice eyes.
• Energy Level - She is a very high energy puppy. She will wear you out if you try to keep up with her.
• Food - She eats twice a day. I mix ½ and ½ Natural Balance Salmon & Sweet Potato dry food with Fromm Chicken a la Veg dry food. She eats about a cup and a half twice a day. She also gets Kongs stuffed with peanut butter to chew on.
• Adaptability – Isis is like a sponge, adapting to whatever changes there are in our household.
• Behaviors – She loves to play. She is way too much puppy for an older dog. Our 15 year old Bichon has no patience for her. She loves to race around with the Dobermans in our home and will wear them out.
• Human Social Skills – She is very friendly with people and animals. She will jump on small children as she is very energetic. She definitely pays attention to you when you are speaking to her and she loves to be praised. She will sit on your lap for a short time as she is too interested in exploring what everyone in the house is doing. She is very easy to train with treats. She knows at night as soon as I go to the treat jar that it is time for bed and she races into her crate and sits and waits for her bedtime snack.
• Animal Social Skills – She is definitely learning her boundaries with different dogs and is learning that not all dogs want to play with her. She does great with younger, larger dogs that have the same energy level. She tries to be the dominant dog, however, the Dobermans put her in her place. She just wants to play and play.
• Obedience – She is learning to sit on command and she will come to me when I call her by name. She also will stop what she is doing when I tell her no.
• Training – She is crate trained. We keep the crate in our bedroom. We are working on potty training. She is doing great with potty training. She goes out as soon as I take her out of her crate. She will go to the door when she has to go but that does mean that she has to go RIGHT NOW. If she has an accident it is by the door. I keep her in my home office with me on and off during the day and I take her outside every hour. If she cries in her crate during the night it always means she has to go potty. After she goes potty she goes right back to sleep.
• Personality Quirks - She gets a lot of pleasure out of waiting until a larger dog is sleeping or not looking and then she charges and jumps on them and then runs behind me for protection. She gives me that totally innocent look like she has no idea what upset the other dog. She loves to run and play.
• Ideal Home – I would not recommend a home with small children as she has way too much energy and she may jump on them. She is extremely smart and very cute and with proper training will turn into a great loyal dog for the right family. The family that adopts her will be very fortunate to get her. Our family will definitely miss her.
Isis was rescued from a horrible situation were most of her siblings died or were given away at only 4 weeks of age. We're glad we were able to at least help little Isis and were hoping to find a great furever home.
According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, early Bulldogs were used in the bloody sport of bull bating. Some of these dogs emigrated with their masters from England to America. Eventually the English Bulldog was bred down in size and his personality was softened, but the American version remained a larger, fiercer dog. The American version has longer legs and more speed and agility than the English show dog. Thanks to the efforts of John D. Johnson of Summerville, Georgia the American Bulldog exists today. After he returned from WW II he was disappointed to find that, like the English Mastiff, they were almost completely extinct. He then decided to gather the best he could find from all across the rural south and bring them back from the brink of extinction. He has been breeding these dogs longer than anyone else in the world and his father bred them before him. He is an old man now (in his 80's) and these dogs have always existed in his family. He is the sole reason why they exist today. If it were not for his efforts they surely would be gone. He has been breeding them non-stop since then. The American Bulldog has also been used as a guard and in hunting bear, wild boar, squirrel and raccoon. They have even been trained to drive cattle and guard stock from predators. Farmers prize these dogs for their stamina, protectiveness, intelligence and working abilities. Some of the American Bulldogs talents are hunting, watchdogging, tracking, weight pulling, and guarding. An American Bulldog should never be confused with uniquely different breeds such as the American Staffordshire Terrier or the American Pit Bull Terrier. The American Bulldog is a brave and determined, but not hostile dog. Alert and self-confident, this breed genuinely loves children. It is known for its acts of heroism towards its master. These dogs have fought wild dogs, bulls and even fire. It is said "fighting off one of these dogs is like fighting an animal that possesses an alligator's head and a python's body." Yet when called off by their handler, they immediately obey. No wonder they are said to have "true grit, true devotion and true love." Because of its strong protective instincts, the American Bulldog should be well-socialized and obedience trained at an early age. Some may be aggressive with other dogs and reserved with strangers. They need to be around people to be truly happy. This breed tends to drool and slobber. They have a life expectancy of up to 16 years.
