Dog for a Day Update:
We had a great time with Cookie (the lab) today. When we picked her up, we were warned she still needed some training, but she turned out to be as sweet as her name! We first went for a walk-run down by the lake, then she sat beautifully and quietly in the car as we drove home. At our house, we discovered that Cookie is a gardener: when we gave her a stick, she would carry it straight to our woodpile. We could not always get her to drop the stick onto the woodpile once she's carried it, but she was still a great companion while we did yard work. After we tidied up in the garden, we came inside and listened to some classical music and did some reading, while Cookie slept on the cool tile floor. She was definitely curious, but did a good job of listening to us whenever we told her something. (For example, our wooden coasters for drinks are not sticks!) She did not bark or try to get on the furniture. We then went for a walk around the park and took her back to the shelter, where her energy levels/enthusiasm seemed to return.
--------
Cookie and her sibling, Lucious, have been together since they were puppies. Their previous owner did not spend any time training them and kept them in his hot garage all day so that he did not have to deal with them. :( They are gorgeous dogs, and you can tell that they want to learn. Cookie and Lucious will need help learing boundries, potty training, and leash training. Since they are so large, they will need a new family who is experienced with training and asserting dominance. They get so excited when they see people and have a tendency to jump on you. Because of their size and excitement, we do not recommend toddlers or small children. There is absolutely no aggression in either of these dogs. Please submit an application to foster or adopt these sweet dogs!
