We would love to see Captain and Tia be adopted together. It is not mandatory but they are so loving together....
Captain Jack was found in the rain along with his siblings and his mother, Snow. He and his siblings have an eye condition called Feline Herpes Virus and Symblepharon. What does this mean? It means the Symblepharon is a condition that occurs in kittens exposed to the virus at an early age. The virus causes corneal and conjunctival ulcers which forms adhesions of the conjunctival tissue to the cornea and eyelides (called symblepharon). The adhesions limit vision but are non-painful. Surgeries may be attempted to correct the symblepharon: however, recurrence is common.
This condition cannot be cured, only controlled. Treatment will vary depending on what specific problem is present. When FHV is suspected, usually anit-viral eye drops or pills are used. Antibiotic eye drops may be used to address any secondary bacterial infection. Oral supplementation of the amino acid L-Lysine may help minimize recurrences and decrease the severity of future FHV outbreaks. Literature will be supllied at the time of adoption or fostering.
These sweeties have been to eye specialist and have been at PRBJ since birth. In times of stress the virus can reactiviate and cause recurrences of ey problems. Try to imagine how stressful it can be for any one of our animals at the shelter; the three of them would really benefit greatly if someone out there would consider fostering or adoption. They do not have to go together. Please read up on this condition or call our shelter to speak to our vet tech.
