Luna came to us with her other siblings and their mama Sheba!  Luna was adopt over a year ago. Although she is a sweet dog, she requires a calm household and a patient hand. She can be fearful when approached by someone she does not know. Luna would do best in a home with older children.

Luna is an super sweet, cute, smart, and lovable dog that is very devoted to her family.  She gets along with everyone. Luna is very gentle and loving with the adults and children that she knows and is very protective of the everyone in our house.  She very much wants and works to please her owner.  Luna is totally house broken and knows many commands, like sit, stay (working on this). She comes when you call her and doesn’t run away. Luna rolls over on command and turns around.  She loves to learn new tricks and loves to play ball; although, she doesn’t always like to give it up.  She has NEVER chewed anything in our house besides her toys, and doesn’t dig or tear anything up.  She prefers to curl up with someone at night but will sleep in her bed.  She sometimes thinks she’s a lap dog and tries to “sneek” on your lap which is funny.  Our ONLY issue with Luna is that she tries to nip/bite people when she first meets them (sometimes with a growl or sometimes with no warning).  After the initial meeting, she is fine, but she displays slight fear aggression at first meeting.  This is  a problem for our family because we have constant visitors staying and kids in and out.  She is in training for this but we feel that this issue is too much for our family.  We love Luna and are devastated at having to say goodbye, but we feel  that Luna will be better served in a loving home with less visitors and kids.  Her best home would be with someone who can work on this issue with her and give her lots of love and attention.

Foster Update 6/2/14:
Luna is an incredible dog and we have fallen in love with her! She has the sweetest personality and is most content snuggled up by your side. Besides her initial fear with strangers, we have struggled to find a single flaw in her! We have fostered countless dogs for Judy's over the years and Luna is going to be one of the hardest to let go once she finds a forever home! She loves playing throughout the day with her other foster friends. At night she rests peacefully through the night on her doggie bed. Each week we get a new toy for Luna to play with and she absolutely loves it! She's extremely intelligent and will patiently wait for her new treat. One thing that we love about Luna is her soft mouth. She takes treats so gently from your hand and is cautious when playing. We adore Luna and are excited for her to meet her forever family!

Foster Update 9/18: We've been fostering Luna for about a month now so we wanted to update her profile. She has such an amazing personality! It is shocking she hasn't been adopted yet! She was very quick to adapt to our home and has always been well behaved. Here are some other things we've found out about Luna:

  1. 100% house trained- she has never had an accident!
  2. She loves chew toys and playing fetch
  3. Knows how to sit, stay, lay down, and roll over!
  4. Responds very well to her name
  5. Sleeps on her doggie bed peacefully throughout the night. Occasionally, she will wake us up for amidnight bathroom break.
  6. Walks very well on a leash
  7. Initially fearful around our male dog but now thoroughly enjoys his company
  8. Absolutely loves to cuddle
  9. Initially showed signs of separation anxiety when left alone- we found putting her in a crate in a bedroom helps ease her anxiety.
  10. Barks when she hears noises outside the house
  11. Cautious when meeting new people
Luna is without a doubt an incredible dog. She would do best with an active household that could appreciate her loving, energetic personality. We do not know how she responds around children but from the previous information given, it seems she would do best in a family with older children or none at all.

*** According to www.dogbreedinfo.com, the Labrador Retriever is a loving, affectionate, lovable, patient dog. Once known as the "St John's Dogs," the Labrador Retriever is one of the most popular breeds in the United States. Originally from Newfoundland, Canada the Labrador was trained to jump overboard into the icy waters to haul fisherman's nets to shore. Specimens were brought to England in the 1800's by English ships coming from Labrador, where the dog's fine retrieving instincts were honed and developed. One of the best family dogs and canine companions because of their gentle, loving disposition, the highly trainable Labrador also excels in drug detection, as a guide for the blind, and service dog for the disabled. The breed is also an outstanding obedience and field trial competitor. Highly intelligent, loyal, willing, and high-spirited. Lively and good-natured, they love to play, especially in water - for they love to swim. They have an excellent, reliable, temperament and are friendly, superb with children and equable with other dogs. They crave human attention and need to feel as though they are part of the family. Labs are easily trained. These dogs are watchdogs, not guard dogs, although some have been known to guard. They have a life expectancy of 10-12 years.
