Description:How cute is this little guy? Roland is a very playful terrier mix. Everyone comments on his beautiful coloring ~ "mocha" is what I keep hearing. He is very friendly and sweet, about 25 pounds right now, probably 45 pounds full grown. You'll love this handsome fellow!
Roland came to us via one of our volunteers. I'll just share her e-mail with you:
" I bought Roland in Pine Hills at the Community Thrift Store for $80.00. A man, who was disabled, in a wheel chair, was trying to sell the dog in front of the store. I told him I volunteered with a Pet Rescue and that I would make sure the dog was adopted to a safe home but he insisted that his "Homey" was going to buy the dog next week from him for $200.00 unless he could sell it that day. I offered $40.00, which he refused and gave him my phone # on Judy's card and left very upset. Called Judy and she said go back but DO NOT GIVE HIM more than $40.00 but I got out with $80.00 in my hands plus a leash..........the rest is history. The man was actually very nice and just was not up to date on the horrors of what can happen to dogs and fighting rings. The man even had cans of dog food in a bag that he gave to me to feed the dog.
My cousin passed away suddenly in the middle of November and I have named the dog Roland after my Cousin's youngest son. In Lieu of flowers, at my Cousin's funeral, the request was to donate money in Memory of Billy Delk (my Cousin) to Pet Rescue by Judy. People have been very generous with donations to Judy in his honor."
I know that there are times in life when it seems like the world is against you and there isn't a good soul out there. Remember, there are more people with good intentions than bad. We just don't realize it because most of their acts of kindness are small ones that go unnoticed. Elissa probably saved Roland's life, not that his owner was ill-intentioned, just naive. I know we'll find him a good home. If you can't adopt him, how about performing an act of kindness instead. You might just touch someone's life at a moment when they feel lost, and what a blessing that will be to you and them!
2/15 Volunteer Update:
Roland is a very engertic pup still and needs lots of room to run and play. He loves car rides and to play ball. Roland gets along good with most dogs. He still has lots of puppy in him so he plays rough. If you have a younger playfull rough and tough dog that needs a playmate Roland would be great. I would not put him with a small breed dog, not because he is mean but Roland does not know how much bigger he would be even tho he is smaller himself. He also needs lots of training. Roland knows how to Sit. Everything still needs work but he is very smart just needs someone that has worked with the breed and understands how smart he truly is. Roland must have a fenced in yard to use as a tool and outlet for his engery. He is also a kisser and wants to sit in your lap when its time to chill. He wants noting more than to be loved on, Well mabye to play ball with you too. He is definatly a great guy!
6/18/2009 FOSTER UPDATE:
I was asked to foster Roland the terrier mix. When I took him he was the best dog I have ever come across. He listened to ever command I gave. He sits, lays down, and even shakes! The best part is he COMES when called!
September '09 FOSTER UPDATE: I have an update on Roland for you. Roland does good with any type of dog, even small dogs, as long as they are not dog aggressive and can handle playing with him. He can sometimes play rough and gets a little mouthy, but we are working on that. An ideal home for him would be with someone who would be able to keep up with him because he still has the puppy mentality. He has the best heart and is the most loving dog I've ever had. He LOVES swimming, you'd think he was born in the water! He stays close to home when we let him run free, he is so smart and loyal. Everyone who meets Roland ADORES him! He deserves the best home!
